The announcement was made on the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. The Soviet Union received 4,063 Sherman tanks during World War Two as part of a lend-lease program.

The Sherman was raised from the bottom of the Barents Sea by divers from the Northern Fleet rescue squad and restored in 2018. It will join the parade alongside T-34s, self-propelled SU-152 heavy howitzers and Katyusha multiple rocket launchers.
