Show a celebration of ‘British motoring manufacturing’

Hundreds of cars and commercial and military vehicles will be on display at the BMC and Leyland Show organised by the British Motor Museum. The event, which takes place on July 7 pays tribute to the vehicles that were produced by the British Motor Corporation, British Leyland and The Rover Group.

This year the show will celebrate a number of key milestones including 60 years of the Morris Oxford Farina range, 90 years since the first BSA front wheel drive car and 50 years of the Austin Maxi, with the last production Austin maxi on display. The Rover 200 and 400 Owners Club will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the SK3 launch and 30th anniversary of the R8 launch.

The show is taking take place on the same day as the Triumph National Weekend, which celebrates the Triumph marque of cars and the Fire Service Preservation Group 999 Spectacular, which is dedicated to Blue Light Emergency Service vehicles. Admission tickets give entry to all three events.

There will also be the traditional Cowley convoy from BMW Mini Cowley and a Longbridge Convoy from MG Longbridge, both arriving at the British Motor Museum in the morning. To join the convoy contact Tanya Field on 07929 868284. Vehicle entrants can also take part in a ‘Show and Shine’ which is open to all vehicles attending the show. Simply register your vehicle on the day.

Visitors can also join the Archive Team in the Motoring Cinema for a rare opportunity to view historic documents in British Leyland’s history. Starting at 11am and 2pm, these insightful talks will also detail how historic material is preserved in the Archive Collection. Talks last 45 minutes each and must be booked in advance via the Museum website.

Tom Caren, show manager at the British Motor Museum said: “The BMC and Leyland Show continues to grow in popularity and is a real celebration of all that is great about British motoring manufacturing. And with entry to three shows in one day, it also represents fantastic value for money!”

Vehicle entry has been frozen for this year and is just £7 which includes a vehicle pass for the show vehicle, entry for one driver and one passenger. Additional passenger tickets can be purchased in advance at £8 per person. Ticket prices on the day are £14.50 Adult, £12.50 Concession and £9 Children.

All tickets include entry to the Museum and Collections Centre. Gift Aid Annual Pass Tickets and other promotional vouchers are valid at this show.
