The winners of this year’s Army Film and Photographic Competition were revealed at a recent ceremony in London and Corporal Rebecca Brown, 29, known as Becky to her colleagues, was named the overall winner.

Becky is a former combat medical technician with 4 Armoured Medical Regiment. Currently based with the combat camera team at Army Headquarters in Andover, she also came runner-up for Best Online Image and also runner-up for her Professional Sport and Adventure Training pictures.

In a benchmark year for the event, a record number of video packages were entered and judges also had to sift through more than 700 still imagery submissions.

The results of the 16 categories were kept on close hold until the evening of the awards, which took place tonight at the National Army Museum in Chelsea.

Command Master Photographer, Warrant Officer Class One Daniel Harmer, said: “It’s an amazing achievement for Cpl Rebecca Brown. Not only did she excel in numerous categories in this year’s competition, she justifiably won and was also runner-up in the most sought-after category of Professional Photographer of the Year, being the first female professional photographer to win this elite prize.

“Cpl Brown is a fine role model for the photographic trade and has clearly shown her talent, skill and motivation in the role as a British Army photographer. I’m so please for her. She has definitely set the highest of standards for future Army Film and Photographic Competitions”.
